This is one of my favorite winter hiking destinations with the kids. When the mountains get snowy and icy, we head towards the Puget Sound. Seriously, sometimes I can not believe how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. Quite literally surrounded by some of the most gorgeous natural settings. Amaze!
Today we got some sun breaks, some dynamic cloud action, lots of bird watching, including an eagle that hovered on updrafts for so long that we finally gave up monitoring. The kids humored me in trekking all the way down the very windy beach to the unattended lighthouse. This was the farthest point from the parking lot that we got to, probably about a mile and a half. I just love lighthouses, there's something so mysterious and romantic and nostalgic about them.
We tried to find a less windy spot for lunch, but mostly the kids just spent their time building a driftwood house and watching some kite-surfers making the most of the weather
It was so nice to get a break from the nearly unending rain lately. Seriously, it's been a gray winter. Our beach play time did get cut short however, when we turned on our nature detective skills and realized that there were some very dark clouds heading straight for us. Made it back to the parking lot just as the skies opened up!
Perfect Pacific Northwest adventure day!
