Wilderness Peak - Cougar Mountain
Crisp, cold, gorgeous day in the big backyard!
I only had an hour and a half before sunset to get myself some fresh air and some moving, so I headed over to the trailhead on SR900 and set out. I figured the south side of the hill would give me a little extra daylight. Today's journey was 4 miles and 1200ft of winter wonderland.
There was still snow on the ground, and ice in the creek, and gorgeous, tree-filtered, winter sunshine everywhere. Truly an awesome afternoon on the trail.
It was slow going in places as I was rocking my trail-runners and there was some packed snow and ice. But the snowy quiet was delightful, and I even got a visit from a flashy, red-breasted sapsucker. The bright colors against the white was striking, but of course he didn't stay still for his photo-op.
Absolutely beautiful day for a hike/run/wander.
